San Mateo, California | April 13th — Award winning comic creator Pieter De Poortere just launched a Kickstarter campaign for Dickie, a laugh-out-loud comic with 160 hilarious and beautifully drawn strips in a superbly designed Kickstarter exclusive comic book.
“Dickie is a comic strip following the hilariously entertaining exploits of a pitiful antihero with a big mustache,” De Poortere explained, “Dickie has enjoyed popularity in a small number of European countries to-date but has never been available worldwide. Now we are changing that! We have created a beautifully designed, Kickstarter exclusive book featuring 160 delightful Dickie comic strips available to backers worldwide.”
De Poortere’s goal with Dickie is to always combine a simple, straightforward drawing style with a considerable dose of biting black humor. Whether he is a farmer, a pirate, a knight, or an astronaut, things frequently go wrong for Dickie, to the great amusement of the reader!
There are no words or phrases in Dickie, with very few exceptions, meaning all jokes are universal and nothing gets lost in translation. All of us can recognize our own shortcomings and weaknesses in Dickie’s character and so in addition to laughing out loud, readers also feel sympathy for this tragically funny figure.
“The idea of having Dickie available and providing laughter to new readers across the globe really delights us!” said De Poortere, “We are very excited about getting this new, exclusive book to Kickstarter backers stemming from countries all over the world, but we need each backer’s help to make it happen. Every pledge is something we truly appreciate and we are very grateful for each backer partnering with us in making Dickie a global reality.”
In exchange for pledging to the project, backers can gain access to a variety of rewards including a paperback copy of Dickie for as little as $25, a hardcover copy for $35, stickers, postcards, prints, inclusion in a future Dickie comic, a custom drawing by De Poortere, and the original drawing used for the book cover.
