Sproutlings is a community publishing project from Hunter Anthologies in Newcastle NSW Australia, edited by Morgan Bell, on the theme of wicked plants. The book Sproutlings: A Compendium of Little Fictions will be a paperback anthology containing short stories about carnivorous creepers, poisonous plants, and vengeful vegetation.
Submissions for flash fiction and poems, between 150 and 2,000 words, closed May 2015. There are 40 contributing authors in the anthology. The Kickstarter campaign will fund the first print run. The campaign currently has 70% of its $2,000 funding goal. It ends on 25 October 2015.
The editor is Australian woman Morgan Bell, a qualified Technical Writer with a Grad Cert in Technical Communications from Swinburne University of Technology and a Cert in News Media. Morgan published her debut collection of short fiction, Sniggerless Boundulations, in January 2014. She is a resident film and book reviewer at Salty Popcorn, and regular volunteer with community literary events such as Newcastle Writers Festival, Hunter Writers Centre Travel Prize, the National Young Writers Festival (part of This Is Not Art), the Grieve Project, and the She: True Stories Project.
Hunter Anthologies’ first anthology, Novascapes (Volume 1), was launched at Newcastle Writers Festival 2015 with the assistance of crowdfunding. A Pozible campaign raised $3,000 to facilitate its first print run. The project was the brainchild of editor Cassandra Page. It was a speculative fiction collection celebrating the shared locality of contributors – Newcastle NSW Australia – and featured award winning local authors such as Margo Lanagan, Kirstyn McDermott, and Thoraiya Dyer. Cassandra Page is currently working on Novascapes (Volume 2).
Rewards for Sproutlings Kickstarter pledges include free editing, free blog copy, free video creation, audiobooks, ebooks, paperbacks of Sproutlings, your six word story published, and the entire book dedicated to you.
