Boise, ID – Local leader, Gina Johnson announced today that her Kickstarter project went live on January 7th, 2014, in effort to raise enough funds to publish her book titled: Why I Game! With the public’s help, she plans to raise at least 35 grand for designing, publishing, and printing the book. Partnering with her financial manager and grandmother, Marla Fund to host the project, she hopes that enough funds will build a high quality book, along with the possibility of a documentary.

Gina Johnson & Gaming
Gina, is disabled, yet this doesn’t stop her from doing what she loves… Playing video games. Gaming has helped save her life by allowing her to take her anger on a virtual character rather than hurt someone or something she cares about. This benefit, and others are the reasons she games. However, there have been recent discussions that violent video games are not good for society.

About the Why I Game! Book
Gina decided to combat these discussions by writing the Why I Game! Book. By combining the benefits, positive statistics, and real stories – including her own- of how gaming has saved lives, Gina aims to change this perspective with her new book: Why I Game!

Kick-Starting the Book
Following 12 months of research and 6 months of part time writing, Gina is ready for phase 2. This involves the gaming community posting their stories on how the common hobby has affected them.

Finding that the financial outcome of designing, printing, and publishing the book was too great, Gina pursued the crowd-funding Kickstarter site. Her goal? Raise enough funds to 1) finish the book, 2) get the book a elegant full color design, 3) Publish it as a interactive eBook app, and 4) print and distribute the book world-wide, especially to non-gamers.

With the hope that the initial costs are raised, she has set additional goals to exceed in the books success… The first is to launch her book at 4 events in the US, 2 on the West coast, and 2 on the east. These events will shed light on the subject of gaming… And as an additional measure of showing the world its benefits, Gina hopes to generate enough resources to create a full feature length documentary.
