Solana Beach, California – May 27, 2013 – It’s officially t-shirt season. As the weather warms up we all begin digging through those dresser drawers in search of that old go-to t-shirt. You know the one… that faded and ripped tee that fits you just right and feels so soft after all these years. Maybe it’s from that “Who” concert you went to 20 years ago but you just won’t let your wife throw it out.

That’s what t-shirts are… timeless snapshots of places and times we experienced. They represent a memory of a time in our life forever stamped in faded screen printed ink. T-shirts are the currency of memories and they are all around us. People wear them as a badge or billboard to declare their identity, their beliefs, or their style. Whether it’s just for fashion or to make a bold stand, we all love our t-shirts.

Skulls and Wings, a new clothing company based in Solana Beach, CA, has launched a Kickstarter campaign called “Be The Origin” to manufacture a line of fresh and bold custom tshirt designs. Starting with the first 7 designs, the campaign is raising money to cover the costs of screen printing the new batch of tees.

Designer and Creative Director, Matt Harding says, “We believe the designs are a new bold spin on some old iconic symbols. The young generation will hopefully be drawn to the high-end style, soft apparel and fresh designs, while us guys of a slightly older generation will recognize some of the design concepts and throwbacks to their youth. We think there’s something for everyone in this collection.”

Also part of the design series is a collaboration with local artists, the first of which is called “Homeward Bound”, a ghostly pirate ship done in pen & ink by local California artist, Gregg Visintainer. From a few feet away his art appears like a normal sketch of a ship, but when you get closer you realize the image is actually made up of many different smaller images and messages, all strategically placed together to form the larger design. Gregg drew his inspiration from the late tattoo artist Sailor Jerry

Each t-shirt in the collection will be printed on premium Next Level Apparel fashion-fit t-shirts and will also be available for purchase through the company website at www.skullsandwings.com.

Along with a choice of t-shirt, the pledge levels also include custom sticker packs and original posters.
