Portland’s Weird City Games launches its first board game bringing the microcosmic world of the ants to game night.

Explore, forage, evolve, and march your way to victory in this dynamic strategy board game for 2-4 players set in the world of ants. Inspired by diverse mechanics from Race for the Galaxy, Twilight Imperium and Eclipse, March of the Ants offers nuanced player interaction and rich thematic flavor, challenging each player to create a thriving ant colony through a variety of strategies. Tim Eisner and Ryan Swisher, co-creators of March of the Ants, are seeking funding for their new game on Kickstarter beginning April 29.

Over the past twelve months, Tim Eisner and Ryan Swisher have created a massive cache of original artwork to parallel the evolution of the game’s design. Through extensive playtesting at local game stores, designer meet-ups, and conventions up and down the west coast – from Kublacon to Gamestorm – March of the Ants has generated excitement and garnered acclaim. James Brady, owner of Portland’s Cloud Cap Games, wrote:

“March of the Ants is a great mix of resource management, exploration, area control, and card play. It really hits a sweet spot with lots of interesting decisions packed into a short period of time, and it really manages to be complex without being complicated. Overall, March of the Ants is a rich and rewarding experience. After back-to-back plays I still want more!”

The accomplished boardgame reviewer Undead Viking says “This is a game of its own “type”. Fully satisfying thematic conflict driven Euro – I love it.”

Geekdad had this to say “”It’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect and want from a game called March of the Ants.”

Part of the beauty of March of the Ants is its five-minute setup. With a single deck of cards, multi-purpose egg/larvae/ant tokens and interlocking modular hex tiles, the game’s elegant design fosters immersive, strategic gameplay without feeling overwhelming or stressful. With a total play time of about an hour and fifteen minutes, March of the Ants will satisfy the mid-range strategy niche in your board game collection.

Weird City Games is offering the game on Kickstarter until June 3rd. Check out the following links for more information about March of the Ants:
