I’m a filmmaker and I’m currently running an Indiegogo campaign to raise enough to tell the story of an amazing food phenomenon.

A few years ago a small group of locals from Todmorden, a small northwest UK town, realised there was a problem: importing and exporting food increases cost and creates a huge carbon footprint.

So they discussed a solution: given that their town had acres of derelict and unused land, why not create a sustainable food source for the entire community?

They held a town meeting and proposed a movement, which would encourage, educate and enable local people to grow and provide food for themselves and the entire community.

They realised if they asked for permission to plant food in private and council owned land they would get tied up in bureaucracy and it might never happen.  So they cut the red tape and began planting fruit, vegetables and herbs in any unused spaces across Todmorden without asking. The guerrilla style gardeners then told the town, ‘Help yourself! It’s free!’ The seeds of the Incredible Edible Movement were planted.

Little did they know, their idea, and the passion of other UK Incredible Edible groups would have a profound effect on communities all over the UK and The World. To date nearly 30 countries have established more than 385 distinct Incredible Edible groups.

This is an exciting and challenging project, which will explore one central question: Why has Incredible Edible’s model of food sustainability become so influential in such a short period of time that hundreds of communities in the UK and WORLDWIDE are now following it?

I am a passionate film-maker and editor who has worked within the UK television industry for twenty years (e.g. BBC, ITV, CH4). I have a track record of making programmes on social issues. Two years ago I made a short film about how IE began. This was self-funded. The vimeo page featuring this film has been visited 280,000 times and so far it's been translated into French, Italian and Spanish. It was also shown on the Saturday night of the tenth ‘Images Mouvementees’ film festival in Paris. I live in Todmorden with my family and like many communities everywhere we enjoy the benefits of living in an IE town. This is a passion project and I want to contribute my skills to this IE movement in the best way I can.
