Who knew that teenagers could develop a full fledged video game? Until the game “Condense,” nobody did. Condense is an indie game for PC, Mac, Android, and iOS that is stylistically beautiful and is fun to play as well. The game involves the evolution of a particle to galactic sizes. Their development team, dubbed “ValenceOne,” consists of three young adults with a passion for gaming, along with their grandfather. Brigham Morgan, ValenceOne’s team leader, gave some insight into their team name. “Well, the electron furthest away from the atom is called the Valence electron,” Morgan explains. “The hydrogen atom only has one atom, therefore giving it a Valence of one. We all like Chemistry and our dreams can be described as ‘out there,’ so ValenceOne fit perfectly.” These kids are way too smart for their own good.
These kids have also done some other crazy things, such as launch a Near-Space Balloon and win Runner-up in an International Physics Film Competition. This game though, is probably their most interesting venture. So why do they do it? “Doing nothing is boring,” claims Morgan. “We’d rather be making games all day than sitting on the couch and playing them.”
Currently ValenceOne’s game is on Kickstarter for funding, because it’s hard and costly to develop a game. Currently they’ve raised around $240, with more to come.
