Ember: Shroud of the Shadow Demon is the first game being produced by Paw-Warrior Games.  It is a non-collectible card game that combines strategy, luck, and chaos in a simple interactive game.  Ember comes with 4 unique decks of cards, 52 cards in each.  It can be played with 2-4 players, is for ages 12 and up, and takes 20-50 minutes to play.

Ember is a points-based game.  Each player’s objective is to earn the most points.  Players get to play 1 card each turn.  Each card has a different effect, and players must decide the best time to play certain cards.  Some cards have effects the help you earn more points, while other cards focus on stopping your opponent’s plans.  You will need to be able to balance both types of cards into your strategy in order to win.

What makes Ember stand out from the rest of the games is the use of the “mode” of a card.  Each card in Ember has a mode associated with it.  Their are four different modes in the game, each of which gives the player a passive ability while they play in that mode.  Every card in Ember has a mode, and an effect, but you can only choose to use one or the other for a single card.  If you put a card into your mode pile, you will be able to use that mode’s ability.  However, the effect of that card will be wasted.  If you really need to use the effect of a card, its mode won’t help you.  Players must decide the best way to use each of their cards during games.

The game is currently raising funds on Kickstarter so Paw-Warrior Games can order a mass-production print of the game.  The campaign goal is $15,000 by August 4th.  Backers that contribute at least $25 will receive a copy of the finished game when it’s printed.
