The Misadventures of Delilah James: A Trans Show Whose Time Has Come
‘The Misadventures of Delilah James’ is a series co-written and produced by Isthmus Magazine’s “Madison’s Favorite Comedian of 2015”, Dina Nina Martinez. The show, described as Ally McBeal meets Bridget Jones with a dash of gender dysphoria, features the trials and tribulations of a 30-something trans woman; highly successful in her business life, she’s now trying to tackle the dating world–with often hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking results.
The series stars Dina Martinez, Ian Harvie (Transparent), Marie DelPrete (The King of Queens), Ann Walker (Sordid Lives), Matthew Nouriel (The Au Pairs), Cindy Boscarelli (making her professional debut) and Marcellas Reynolds (Desperate Measures).
Martinez is the mastermind behind the series. “It’s my story. It’s just this chubby chick in the middle of the country working her butt off to make a living and trying to date men. Oh, and by the way, she’s trans! I wanted to create a series where being transgender was not the main focus, but just a part of the character’s story and one hell of a complication.”
Ian Harvie from Transparent, who plays Delilah’s long-term love interest, says about the show and his character: “I am thrilled to be part of such an exciting series. Mathias as a character/person … is down to earth yet cultured. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this project.”
