Hailed as an ‘adreneline-charged, pop-noir mystery’ by The Hollywood Reporter, THE AMERICAN SIDE, launched their Kickstarter project on October 10th. Award-winning Co-Producer and Director, Jenna Ricker, and team are looking to raise $85,000 toward the US Theatrical Release and have reached 50% of the funding goal with 7 days left in the campaign.
THE AMERICAN SIDE is a twisty mystery, inspired by noir with nods to the great conspiracy films of the 70’s, including a score by Academy Award Winning composer, David Shire (All the President’s Men, The Conversation, Zodiac). The star-studded cast introduces Greg Stuhr and includes Matthew Broderick, Camilla Belle, Robert Forster, Janeane Garofalo, Alicja Bachleda and Robert Vaughn, among others. The historically inspired story explores what happens when a revolutionary design by enigmatic inventor, Nikola Tesla, surfaces in Buffalo, NY, sending a low-rent detective on a frantic chase to the brink of Niagara Falls.
Although most people have never even heard his name, Nikola Tesla is responsible in part, or in whole, for nearly every scientific advancement of the 20th century. So ahead of his time, he spoke about wireless technology while people still got around on horseback. To this day, Tesla’s ideas and designs are studied by the most forward-thinking scientists and engineers.
Immediately after his death, government representatives seized all of Tesla’s belongings, though multiple accounts suggest some papers and devices were missing. A broad search was indeed conducted by the FBI throughout New York City to find any documents and artifacts relating to Tesla. Ms. Ricker says, “A fact-based, speculative account of how a newly discovered, revolutionary invention of Nikola Tesla’s could affect the world was the perfect inspiration for our film.” The Hollywood Reporter has described the film as “a loving homage to film buffs… with a wonderful supporting cast and evocative locations.”

Jenna Ricker (Writer/Director) and Greg Stuhr (Writer/Actor) are NYC based filmmakers with an extensive list of movie, TV and stage credits between them. When Greg told Jenna about a story he’d been developing called The American Side, she was instantly intrigued. Together they wrote and developed the script and raised over 1.7 million to produce the film- a truly independent feature. They continue to develop material under their production company, One Horse Shy. They can often be spotted beating writer’s block with a good burger or catching favorite movies at Film Forum in New York City.
