SIFFY 2017 is raising money through Kickstarter that will run through January 8th, 2017.
On July 28th, 2017 twelve to fifteen filmmakers from America, England, Italy, S. will lead groups of eight children for one week to create films based on the theme, “Mother Earth”. The films will then be screened on August 3rd, 2017 to a wide audience of approximately 700 locals and tourists in Skopelos. The films will then be circulated to youth festivals throughout the world.
The festival tackles themes that attempt to make a difference for the youth in Greece in these dire times. This year’s theme will teach children about the richness of the land and that the natural resources that can be harvested and ultimately allow the children to earn a living in the future. Some examples are beekeepers, stone masons, dairy farmers (Skopelos is known for their goats originally from the island of Skatzoura), olive oil producers, soap makers, etc.
SIFFY is organized by The Skopelos Foundation for the Arts which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is partially located in Skopelos, Greece.
Without your help, SIFFY will not happen. This has become a huge initiative for the Greek community and it needs to continue.
