London based graphic designer and artist Tom Love, has launched his 6th Kickstarter project, Go Pop. A collection of 6 hand-pulled screen prints featuring the bottle caps of iconic soda brands; Coca-Cola, Pepsi, 7up, Cherry Coke, NEHI and Mello Yello. The bottle caps will be screen-printed, by hand, at 500mm x 500mm, using 8 colours (including metallic inks) to form an exclusive limited edition Further to this, the campaign includes an, exclusive to Kickstarter, A2 giclee printed poster that features 40 bottle caps from his collection.
Tom Love says, “Go Pop recognises the striking graphic narrative of the 20th Century and explores the often-overlooked relationship between art and graphic design. The Go Pop! series brings to life my collection of vintage bottle caps, blown up in size and hand printed to produce a series of high-quality fine art.”
Being able to see the beauty in everyday functional design isn’t easy when we’re busy going about our busy lives. That’s why Tom Love wants to change the context in which graphic design is viewed – by blowing up his collection of vintage bottle caps into much bigger versions of themselves, so that every tiny detail can be admired. From the use of typography to colour and form, design becomes art and begins to create an emotional reaction.
The bottle caps will be screenprinted at 500mm x 500mm, using 8 colours (including metallic inks) to form an exclusive limited edition. Each one printed on the highest quality archival paper, hand signed by the artist (Tom love) alongside the edition number, making sure each one is a collectable and covetable piece of affordable fine art.
His campaign, which is 40% funded already, features a film that shows the painstaking process of making the prints – a skill that Tom has been honing over the years.
From a very young age, Tom Love always had a passion for design and somehow always knew he was always going to be a designer.
This singular goal of being a designer was set in motion the day his grandfather passed his stamp collection down to him. Stamps opened up a new world to him, with these tiny little pieces of paper telling stories from a world he hadn’t yet explored. Through bright, colourful illustrations, photographs and typography in languages he’d never seen before, these stamps ignited his passion and love for graphic design, travel and popular culture.
