Toronto, ON — After struggling to find options for personalizing their bank cards, classmates Deepak Kanda, Kunal Arneja and Nathaniel Bagnell set out to create Cucu Covers; a new method of personalizing bank cards. The temporary and replaceable covers come in a variety of designs or one can make their own.“We loved personalizing everything we own, but when it came to bank cards, we just weren’t satisfied with the old-school and permanent solutions banks offered. So we created something fun and impermanent that that allowed us to personalize our bank cards, easily and quickly” says Deepak Kanda.

Cucu covers will be sold online, firstly through a Kickstarter campaign (live on August 22) and later through www.cucucovers.com. Prices range from $5.99 for a pre-made design, and begin at $7.99 for a fully custom design. There are currently over 300 pre-made designs available from talented illustrators all over the world.

Customers can apply the covers to their existing bank cards; it still allows for inserting, swiping and tapping. The covers can also be easily removed from the cards without leaving any residue or scratching the surface of the card. “We know the understand the value of change and possibility. We’re thrilled to provide a new means to customize their bank cards as frequently as they like without needing a replacement card” – says co-founder Nathaniel.

The founders are also using their new invention to bring awareness to the growing problem of young artists living street involved, homeless or otherwise on the margins. After partnering with local non-profit art organizations, they created the ‘SKETCH’ collection where all profits are donated directly to the artists and the respective organization. “We work with these organizations to source the art, then digitally scan it through our facilities to turn them into ready-to-print artworks.” says Kunal Arneja.

Their mission is to bring awareness to at-risk art communities across the world, by partnering with organizations that provide space and mentorship for street-involved youth artists. “By providing such artists with a new platform, we can not only give them a new medium to sell their art, but also spread awareness and empower a struggling community.” – Deepak expresses.

CUCU is based in Downtown Toronto and is part of the Ryerson DMZ – Canada’s #1 Business Incubator.
