Boston, MA — Louisa Kasdon, founder of Let’s Talk About Food and Ilene Bezahler, publisher of Edible Boston and To Market are combining forces to create The Food Voice, New England’s new hub for the progressive food movement. By combining two leading food industry organizations, Edible Boston and Let’s Talk About Food, into one multi-media platform that encompasses print, events, digital and social media outreach, the goal is to advance public engagement within the regional food system. The dynamic duo of Kasdon and Bezahler is well respected in the region for leadership and creativity in the food industry by producing top quality media, events and asking the tough questions and seeking the answers. “We think food should have a voice,” explains Kasdon. The Food Voice launches its Kickstarter campaign this week with a goal of reaching $60,000.00 within one month.

Why The Food Voice, Why Now? The Food Voice is on a mission to connect, convene and educate the New England community around food, creating a multimedia platform that throws a spotlight on the great bounty, people and challenges in New England’s food system. Its goal is to be an energizing and organizing voice for progressive food in New England, tackling regional challenges and topics in the region. “It’s tough out there for the farmer, fisherman, grocer, chef and consumer,” explains Bezahler. “We are lucky to have extraordinarily talented and educated people here in our region and we aim to bring them together.”

Issues The Food Voice plans to tackle include: Sustainability, Immigration, Education, Culinary Training and more. “Our programs can be as broad as the immigration crisis and how it affects the food industry, and as specific as targeting a possible sugar tax,” says Kasdon. “Food has always been the single source that keeps communities together. We are all connected through food in some way. We want to bring people to the table, literally, and explore the issues and create solutions together,” says Kasdon.

The Kickstarter Campaign. The Food Voice kicks off its Kickstarter Campaign on September 20, 2017. Its goal is to raise $60,000.00 within thirty days. With the funding, The Food Voice will launch a Let’s Talk About Food podcast and add several new Let’s Talk About Food events and conferences in New England. The Food Voice will continue publishing Edible Boston while expanding the scope and reach of its sister regional production, To Market. “Through Let’s Talk About Food’s events and in our magazines Edible Boston and To Market, we have been dedicated to the conversation about food in the local region for over ten years,” says Kasdon. “We are both proven communicators and we think New England deserves a fresh and single special hub to communicate about all things food,” says Bezahler.

Some of the incentives in The Food Voice Kickstarter campaign include cooking classes with Chef Jody Adams, food photographs by Edible Boston’s food photographer Michael Piazza, olive oil tastings with Nancy Harmon Jenkins, lunch with renowned nutritionist and Harvard professor Dr. Walter Willett, and more. Bezahler shares, “We appreciate the enormous support from our friends in the industry. Each day people are coming forward telling us they want to be a part of this campaign.” Kasdon adds, “It is tremendous to see the support and interest. We are dedicated to providing an impactful program to the community.”

The Food Voice is committed to the goal that most of its events and publications will remain free of charge to keep them accessible to the broadest possible audience and achieve the greatest social impact. A successful Kickstarter Campaign will help grow the platform.

The Food Voice now owns the magazines Edible Boston and To Market and the brands Let’s Talk About Food and The Readable Feast and will coordinate all administrative and financial resources.
