Volatile is fun & dynamic tile based word creation game. It’s easy to learn and quick to setup. There’s no board so it packs up small to bring & play anywhere. We love bringing it to our favorite bar to play casually while hanging out and relaxing. There’s minimal score-keeping since you play words to collect cards & tokens. The game is balanced to promote interplay, so there’s less potential for huge swings or insurmountable leads.
In Volatile players take turns making words using letter tiles in their hand, along with any tiles in the community pool. If the colors in the word matches one of the available cards, that players collects the card and gets the points! There are three yellow lightning tiles (A, E, and R) which are always available to use and earn an extra point, but if you do use one then the tiles you played stay out for the next player to potentially use in their word. Additionally, players can earn an extra point for making a word with 5 or more letters. When the cards or tiles run out, the player with most points wins!
The game can be played competitively with 2-4 where players compete for a high score, or cooperatively where players work together to clear all of the cards before the run out of tiles. The cooperative version can even be played solitaire!
The full game comes with 100 colorful letter tiles, 29 large color combination cards, and 50 yellow lightning & purple 5-letter-word tokens. Backers will also receive exclusive stickers, enamel pins, and even awesome Volatile coasters depending on the level!
Stretch goals include additional cards and tiles for an Expert mode, an optional ruleset and tokens for added competitive interaction, and a secondary set of cards for a deeper co-op experience.
