Vancouver, British Columbia — After four years in development, tabletop startup Lunar Games launched its flagship title Endless Realms April 24 2018 on Kickstarter. Endless Realms is a tabletop roleplaying game with an easily learnable but robust system that promotes strategic choices and creative thinking for all aspects of play – not just combat. The main stage for its lore is set in Lumis, an earth-like planet where various creatures, races, spirits, and forms of energy have gathered.
“We built our game world and system together so that they meshed with each other perfectly,” explains Kirsty Garbe, CEO of Lunar Games. “Getting away from traditional fantasy is challenging, and developing new species, cities, and worlds is hard but inspiring. Pulling it off is even harder, and I think we did just that.”
The mechanical elements of gameplay are decided with dice in a straightforward and easy-to-follow system, known as the Balance System. Players use a single D10 to roll against the Game Master’s D10 during combat, social encounters, while traveling, exploring, and interacting with their vices and virtues – which are character-defining personality traits with tangible effects in gameplay.
Race and class options are a huge draw in many RPGs, and Endless Realms delivers a diverse and interesting selection. From sentient trees to alien-like invaders, the races step beyond the familiar. Each race features several pages of informative lore to give players a substantial understanding of how they fit into the setting of Lumis.
Some of the classes draw on familiar archetypes – the Knight, Elementalist, and Barbarian, for example – but are built to embody a specific identity within the game’s mechanics and lore. Each class has a wide and large enough set of skills or spells, attributes, and mechanics that two adventurers of the same class in the same party could feel completely different.
The other content of Endless Realms is just as expansive – including hundreds of items, both mundane and magical, and over 250 creatures in its Creature Compendium. The breadth of options and lore available provide Game Masters and players with a powerful and straight-up fun array of tools.
“I think more than anything, we are excited to see what people do with Endless Realms,” said Kirsty Garbe. “We want to hear players’ stories and see what crazy things they pull off in our game system. This is just the start of Endless Realms, and we want our players’ feedback and tales to help shape the setting as it evolves.”
The Endless Realms campaign funded 50% in its first 10 days and is on track to unlock its first three stretch goals – a digital artbook, an adventure module, and even more art to fill the beautifully illustrated Core Rulebook. Backers can get their hands on a digital copy of the 300+ page Core Rulebook for about $16 USD. Higher tiers include great rewards like having your character featured in a short story or sketched by the game’s official artist, a handy GM screen packed with useful information, and even a lifelong pass to receive every single Endless Realms title that is digitally published.
