Love DnD? Love Japanese style chibi art? Fiends & Foes are 5e chibi style monster cards with cool art on the front and the monster’s stat block on the back. We’re a two person artist/designer team and we’ve laid out 4 Core Decks with 40 Cards each. That’s 160 monsters covering CR0 to CR16! The cards are tarot size (70mm x 121mm, 2.75″ x 4.75″) giving them plenty of space for the artwork and stat blocks. And each deck is sorted by CR ranges, so it’s easy to know which deck to bring with you to each campaign.
The Front has chibi style art and the monster’s name only. This makes it easy to show the card to your players without giving away any information!
The Back has a full stat block with the information organized in the most useful way. At the bottom, space-permitting, there is sometimes a random encounter seed to give the PCs an interesting reason to run across that monster.
More complex monsters may have an alternative layout on the back to make room for all of the information. In rare cases, we may split the information onto an additional card and provide two artwork pieces. In other cases where the text is ridiculously long (like the Harpy’s Luring Song), we will cut it off at some point on the card and provide an extra PDF with the full text laid out on it.
Of course, the design isn’t quite final yet! These are early concept designs that are still up for some tweaking to colors, backgrounds, font sizes, and so on. We are open to feedback from our backers if anyone has any good ideas.
We’ve got a ton of great ideas for additional decks and we’re hoping that you can help fund their development! For each stretch goal below, we’ll make an entirely new deck. When the goal is reached, we’ll put it up for a vote and then decide on what kind of deck it will be as a community.
