I am 50 years old and I was in a bad car accident over 3 year ago. I ended up with a Traumatic Brain Injury, Post Concussion Syndrome and a messed up eye… I suffer from off centered vision, nausea, dizziness, extreme fatigue, double vision, as well as many other symptoms. I am in ongoing Neurological Reorganization therapy right now that is supposed to retrain my brain. I am unable/allowed to drive, meaning I can’t work either…. and maybe never again for both.
My car insurance company was paying for my treatments and income replacement… until this week. I received a letter by courier telling me they overpaid me and I’m responsible for the repayment of this over payment… in the amount of $56,000 +. It also means I will no longer be receiving income replacement or having my treatment plan or the transportation to and from my appointments covered.
My therapy costs $4000 a year plus transportation which is $100 – $400 per trip. This doesn’t even include living expenses.
I can’t work because of symptoms and activities required for my job cause the symptoms to worsen. Being unable to work I can’t even imagine how I’m going to get through this, let alone the financial issues I will go into below.
Finding out about the over payment amount has pushed my depression into high gear because not only does my doctor saying I may never be able to drive/or work again, I now have this crazy amount of money to be repaid hanging over my head. I don’t know what to do so I am asking for help.
This has been a very difficult process. I would like nothing more than to go back to normal where even simple things like typing this post don’t cause me to be out of commission for the rest of the day.
