Danger Games is proud to announce that our card game, Rainbow, is now live on Kickstarter. Rainbow is a trick-taking game that uses poker combinations like pairs, straights, and full houses to rank hands. Simple enough to learn in a few minutes but with some unique features that make the game much more challenging to master, Rainbow is a casual game that can be enjoyed just about anywhere.

Rainbow is played with a custom 80-card deck including 5 ranks (tens, jacks, queens, kings, and aces) in 5 colors (red, orange, green, blue, and purple) along with 5 wild cards (one for each rank). Each round players are given 15 cards that are used to create 5 hands (a 1-card, 2-card, 3-card, 4-card, and 5-card hand) for the 5 tricks. Players bid on how many tricks they think they can win, cards are played, points are scored, and rounds continue until a player scores 11 points and wins the game!

The age range is 7+ and Rainbow is a great introductory trick-taking game because trump is built into the colors. Purple is the strongest color followed by blue, green, orange, and red. For example, if 2 players play a pair of aces – one green pair and one purple pair – the purple pair wins because purple is the strongest color. With 15 cards in each round there are millions of ways to set up each hand. There’s also bidding, betting, and bluffing so players have a chance to take any trick no matter what cards they’re holding.

The Rainbow deck has also been designed with accessibility in mind. Each color is represented by an icon to help colorblind players distinguish the 5 colors.

Rainbow was designed and developed by Curtiss Patrick, a former minor-league hockey player in the ECHL and AHL who now works as a web developer.
