Oita, Japan – 02/04/2020 – Wancher, a Japanese fountain pen company, just launched its new fountain pen called Bakelite Seven Treasures on Kickstarter.

Within only the first 24 hours, the project already drew more than 300 backers and reach ¥10.000.000 of the fund out of ¥150,000 goal.

What is so special about Bakelite Seven Treasures fountain pen?

This is a vintage-inspired premium fountain pen made from high-quality bakelite and hand-crafted with Japanese traditional Shippoyaki (七宝焼)art by Master Okagaki Yukie. The fountain pen is named after the material and art used to create it.

“Bakelite is a light-weight yet super durable material with hairline vintage look. Different from the usual plastic, bakelite gives a warm and luxurious feel when holding in hands.

The cap crown of the pen is carved with a Japanese traditional cloisonné art called shippoyaki. This beautiful shippo handmade by Master Okagaki Yukie is known as the soul of the fountain pen, making the Bakelite Seven Treasures a unique piece of art.”

“七宝 /shippo/ translates to Seven Treasures in Japanese. This is a Japanese term used for enamelware. 七宝 or Seven Treasures refer to those treasures which are used as ingredients in making Shippo or Japanese Cloisonné artwork.
焼 /yaki/ means “”bake”” in Japanese. And 七宝焼 /shippoyaki/ is a Japanese way of cloisonné work.”

With more than 60 years of experience, Master Okagaki dedicates her heart and time into crafting every single piece of shippoyaki on the fountain pen.

With this project, together with many shippoyaki artists in Japan, represented by Master Okagaki Yukie, Wancher would like to introduce a traditional Japanese shippoyaki art to the world and help to protect this unusual art from extinction.

The project already exceeded its goal hugely within only the first day of the launch. This project will create a big impact on the fountain pen and art community if it is successfully funded on Kickstarter by Mar 3rd.
