The stylishly immersive Visual Novel/Role-playing Game has launched its crowdfunding campaign.
Indie developer Akabaka launched the Kickstarter for his Visual Novel/Role-playing Game (VN/RPG) hybrid, CHROMATOSE, which will be released on Windows and MacOS in 2021. The campaign seeks to raise $22,000 towards funding the game.
Fond of roleplay storytelling experiences akin to Dungeons & Dragons, Akabaka seeks to replicate the feeling of him directly interacting with the player by allowing them to make many major plot-influencing choices that dramatically affect gameplay.
“Visual novels by nature do not allow players to engage with the characters and world on their own terms as they would be able to in a roleplay experience, and interaction with the story is often limited to few-and-far-between, sometimes trivial, in-text decisions. So, what I wanted to do with CHROMATOSE is give the players the feeling of freedom that they would have if I was sitting across the table from them by not restricting where they go, who they talk to, or what decisions they can make.” – Akabaka
Set in the nightmarish coma world, CHROMATOSE emphasizes meaningful decisions, character relationships, and a compelling story: “You’ve awakened in a strange nightmare after a fall that should have ended your life. Around you are amnesiac strangers who are also trapped in this world for their own unique reasons. Escape the collective nightmare in 12 hours or never wake up.” CHROMATOSE boasts 10 bittersweet stories about redemption and personal growth, each with their own unique, colorful world, all tied together by a unique, rapid-fire card battle system that interweaves the relationships that the player builds with how effective they are in combat!
