London — October 19th, 2015 | A Kickstarter campaign has been launched for CLANDESTINE, a short film that follows the perilous journey of a group of refugees across the Mediterranean. The latest film by Writer/Director Stuart Gatt, delves into the horrors that have led to the death, this year alone, of 2,000 refugees trying to make it to Europe.
CLANDESTINE, written and to be directed by Stuart Gatt, with Kate Glover and Kelly Goncalves as producers, has Médecins Sans Frontières/ Doctors without Borders (MSF) and Humans Rights at Sea as affiliated charities. All profits from the film will be donated to MSF to support the heroic work of doctors involved in rescue operations in the Mediterranean.
CLANDESTINE follows the journey of Emmanuel and Olu, who are snatched from their home by militia and transported to a Libyan detention centre where refugees are regularly held and extorted for money. In a massively overcrowded environment with no sanitation, the couple finds their new surroundings a jarring contrast to the life they lived before Libya descended into war. When the Guards realise Emmanuel is educated, they do their best to extort everything they can from him before learning his true weakness – his wife. Where starvation, torture and rape are the norm, Emmanuel must do everything he can in order to get himself and Olu on a boat to Europe.
“The timing of this film couldn’t be more relevant, with the international community suddenly aware of how serious the Syrian refugee crisis is. With this film, we aim to shine a light on another major part of the crisis, the dramatic situation of those making the treacherous journey from Africa across the Mediterranean Sea. Our objective is to raise social awareness, that will hopefully equate to the tangible saving of lives” said Writer/Director Stuart Gatt.
The CLANDESTINE Kickstarter campaign will be live from 16 October until mid-November 2015 with a targeted goal of £13,000. For further information, please visit our Kickstarter page: www.kickstarter.com
