Genuine Diamondback Rattlesnake Skins from the Sonoran Desert handcrafted into amazing writing instruments! This collection of fine writing instruments is crafted in Tucson, Arizona. Each skin is carefully prepared and tanned. The skin is meticulously prepared for the pen. The skin is then cast into a pen blank. This process has taken over a year of trial and error before the desired beauty and consistency has been achieved. The final step is to turn the blank on a wood lathe to the precise size for the pen. Each pen is unique as the Diamondback Rattlesnake has a variation of colors and patterns.
The WoodNotch craftsmen are four brothers (the four oldest of ten children), striving for excellence in creating custom masterpieces in each pen that they craft. This Kickstarter company understands quality and fine detail. Customer satisfaction is guaranteed! The profit from their work is re-invested into the company but ultimately saved for their college education.
In November of 2014, Stephen, age eleven, was hiding out in his dad’s workshop making wooden puzzles and toys for Christmas presents for his younger siblings. His mom put a photo on Facebook and soon many were asking him to make wooden toys for Christmas gifts. The four oldest Roland boys filled orders and crafted puzzles, toys, miniature violins, and scrolled names. In three weeks the boys had profited $900.
Several weeks later a Great Uncle (in more than one way!) was visiting and saw that the boys had great potential in woodcrafts. He taught the boys how to “turn a pen.” He gave them tools, pen kits, and materials to help them get their start in pen making. It wasn’t long before they were crafting advanced pens. Since then they have sold at local shows and an online shop. Please consider supporting these young men as they build their business, WoodNotch.com.
