Life for me before the pandemic consisted of working a 9 – 5 job in warehousing and logistics. During my free time I loved spending time on computers and would often find myself still awake into the early hours of the morning playing games, streaming or researching online.
When I got laid-off from my job due to the need for self isolation, I found myself with the most time off I had ever had in the past decade. I used this opportunity to catch up on projects around the house and in the back in the yard.
I had spent hours in the evenings buildings houses and gardens in survival sandbox games like Minecraft, Rust, Ark, H1Z1 and DayZ. This was my chance to catch up on my projects in real life.
With a friend’s help we built the garden boxes, ordered top soil from a local farm and planted seeds. A couple months later we were making salads from our backyard and spending much less in the produce sections at the grocery store. If you’ve never gardened before I highly recommend it; the sense of achievement of building or growing something yourself especially when it is essential like food is incredible.
Before this, my diet while on the computer was based out of convenience: pizza, Chinese takeout, chicken nuggets, chips, energy drinks, pop, etc. It gave me the calories I needed to sustain me and I found myself most times leaving my meals to go cold if I was intensely focused on a game like League of Legends; especially if it was something I couldn’t quickly consume or required a knife and fork.
After about a week of including a salad each day in my diet from my garden I noticed a consistent heightening in my mood and overall energy levels. Much different from a sugar spike with a crash that follows later, each day following my changed diet, I woke up feeling good and ready for the day.
This is where my inspiration for our first product came from. I have a strong passion for eating healthy, feeling good, and I also love video games and the E-Sports/gaming community. I wanted to create a healthy product that was easy and ready to consume specifically for people like you who share the same passion as I do.
