Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – October 10, 2014 – AMAC Footwear has just launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a sneaker aimed at both looking great and ending the clean water crisis.
“After years of collecting sneakers and running a sneaker customizing business, I asked myself what would happen if every shoe ever purchased supplied clean drinking water to someone who didn’t have any,” says CEO and designer Austin McAllister. “That was ultimately the idea that lead to the creation of AMAC Footwear.”
AMAC Footwear’s mission is simple. By partnering with the non-profit Water Wells for Africa, AMAC Footwear is able to supply a person in need with 20 years of clean drinking water every time a customer purchases a pair of AMAC Footwear shoes. With an estimated 3.4 million people dying every year from a lack of clean drinking water, AMAC Footwear aims to make a real difference where it matters.
This isn’t CEO and designer Austin McAllister’s first venture in the sneaker industry. At the age of 14, Austin launched the successful sneaker customizing firm AMAC Customs. In his time with AMAC Customs, Austin’s designs were frequently featured on major fashion news outlets which help propel him to fame within the sneaker community. Now 19 years old and a recent high school graduate, Austin is ready to start the next stage of his career by launching AMAC Footwear.
The shoe being funded by the Kickstarter campaign is called the Katema. It is named after a village in Malawi that AMAC Footwear’s partner Water Wells for Africa is currently helping supply with clean drinking water.
Not only is the Katema going to help people in need, it is also a stylish sneaker that looks great. The clean design was created by CEO Austin McAllister to appeal to a wide range of ages and styles. The shoe features a honeycomb-style mesh across the entire upper, while a sleek trim of suede blesses the lower part of the shoe as well as the lace skirt. The comfortable gel insoles on top of the soft rubber base ensure that the Katema is not only stylish, but that it is comfortable as well.
AMAC Footwear launched its Kickstarter campaign on October 10th and plans to meet its goal of $50,000 by November 10th. If the company meets this goal, over 330 people in need will be supplied with clean drinking water. The funds for the Kickstarter will go directly toward funding the first production run and will help AMAC Footwear expand its retail presence.
