Game of Words, an indie card game announced in March this year has already achieved 80% of its crowdfunding goal in 20 days. It is the first game put up for crowdfund by its creator, Yogi Raj, who has been a gamification consultant to educational companies and corporate supporting them with gamification of various subjects. Game of Words has attracted funds from a diverse set of audience including language lovers, card game players and micro-investors in general.
The Game of Words, a card game using synonyms enables over 20 games to be played using a pack of 52 cards that has 52 words on it. These games include Rummy, Solitaire, Bluff, Flash and other games. Since the game follows similar dynamics as regular playing cards, players have to match synonyms to win hands. Suitable for age group of above 15 years, the game can be played with friends and family as well as solo; such as solitaire.
“The response has been encouraging with some educational companies showing interest in releasing a Junior version for kids under age of 12. It can be a good aid for learning for children”, said Yogi Raj. The Game is also seeing audience from restaurant, coffee shop and pub owners who think this could be a good merchandising option for their patrons as they would like to spend more time at the table while playing the game with friends. “Yes, we were contacted by restaurants for a casual version of the game for which we will be creating Game of Words ‘Urban’, that will included modern, fun words for a party or hangout setup”.
There has been a surge in indie games recently especially through gamification that aim to enhance the education and learning experience for diverse age groups. Where mobile and PC games share maximum voice in the talks, physical table top games are also picking up momentum as they allow socializing in real-time apart from the fun they offer to its players.
