Ever wanted to host food events at your own house for other people? Imagine how fun and awesome it would be? To have people from different backgrounds of the world gather at your house to experience your culture or other cultures of your choosing through food. Well that’s exactly what the Meet & Eat App helps you achieve! It’s all about cultural foods (AND WE ALL LOVE FOOD!).
The idea for the app came to me as I was sitting with my family and we were deciding what we wanted to eat for dinner. I come from a Turkish cultural background, however as a family we love all foods from around the world. Me and my family were really craving Chinese food that night, the only problem is, we don’t have a good local Chinese restaurant near our house to go and enjoy. I wish I was able to cook traditional Chinese food myself, however it would never be the same. One of our neighbours on our street is a lovely Chinese family and I always smell great cooking cooking from their house. So I thought we could go as a family to our neighbours house and enjoy a meal with them, as well as experience amazing, traditional Chinese food, music and culture. So we went and had a fabulous evening, which was so good I had to give them a small sum to help cover the cost of the food and drinks they served us. THEN IT HIT ME! Why don’t we make this possible for everyone to do? People should be able to enjoy all cultures from around the world and there is no better way of doing that than breaking bread together! Especially in such a diverse and multi-cultural city as London!
How the app briefly works:
With the Meet & Eat App, you can either choose to be a host or a guest. As a host you get to express the unique intricacies of your culture to other people through food! As a host, you can put up an event on the Meet & Eat App and charge people (an appropriate amount of course) for the food and entertainment you’re offering at the event. You fill out the options (such as the cuisine you’ll be serving or what extra entertainment there might be) and then list your event for people to see.
While as a guest, you can also experience a whole lot of different cultures and cuisines from around the world in an atmosphere of fun and laughter. All you need to do is launch the Meet & Eat App on your smartphone and tap explore to see what events are available near you so you can choose to attend them as a guest. Or, you can also fill out options if you’re looking for a particular cuisine or if you have certain dietary requirements. For example, you can choose to attend an event hosted by a Chinese family who will be cooking traditional Chinese food, or a Turkish Individual who will be cooking Italian food. Hosts do not need to limit their cooking to only their cultural backgrounds, they are more than welcome to explore and try cooking food from different cultures, as well as try to become an expert in cooking their own.
Both hosts and guests can explore each other’s pages to know more details about each other or message one another (before or after an event). What’s more? The Meet & Eat app features a proprietary reviews system that allows both hosts and guests to leave reviews about each other’s conduct, as well as hygiene ratings. This way, both hosts and guests can have an idea of the experience they are about to join or have before they actually commit to it.
We hope to continuously develop the app and make it as great as possible. But we cannot do this alone… we need your help to complete the design and launch of this awesome app project, so it can be available for us all to enjoy as soon as possible. Risks and challenges:
Both me and my co-creator is not an expert when it comes to creating an app, so our biggest challenge or potential risk we face is that app creating is not our area of expertise. However, we have already put in many hours of research and definitely aim to do more research to help us understand more in the future! We also aim to put together a team with the funds in order to help create the Meet & Eat app and make it as great as it possibly can be! We have been communicating with other people who have created apps before to gain more insights and knowledge.
An amazing part of this app is that it helps and supports anti-food wasting. Food will not be going to waste as people will have more company at their house than usual to help food being wasted. Food is becoming less and less available to many of us around the world and the only way to help and support saving food is by SHARING!
Also, its a great way for people to fight against racism and support multiculturalism. We can all experience and explore new cultures near us and help local communities come together in solidarity and peace through the power of FOOD! www.kickstarter.com
