This is an exciting year for Pixel Initiative with the progress of the recently launched Kickstarter campaign aiming to raise funds for the new playing card deck titled “Fishing For Compliments”. This is a standard format deck of playing cards, with beautiful illustrations of fresh water fish on each face. www.flickr.com
There has been a great response so far from the Kickstarter audience and I have raised £2,118 goal in the first 2 weeks and my project has also been selected as a Staff Pick. I have used various Playing Card, Fishing and also Crowd Funding forums to build an appetite for my product before launching and it has been amazing to see what the digital community can offer. The amount of helpful comments and advice has been the backbone of my achievement so far and it is obvious that a successful Kickstarter campaign is a social phenomenon.
The process of building a playing card has been enlightening also, from carefully revising printing and distribution companies that will deliver a high quality finish to the cards, to revising the archaic rules of indices (How to correctly place the card value in the top corners of each card face so the cards can be held in a fan and their numbers & suit are still visible). Listening to the advise of professionals is the key to understanding this market. www.flickr.com
