Santa Fe, New Mexico, March 29, 2016 – English Language Training Solutions (ELTS) announced today that it is raising funds via a rewards crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to get their first language learning game to market. The company set out to raise $32,000 on Kickstarter to professionally print Color Vowel® DUO—a revolutionary game that teaches the sounds of the English language through play.

“My middle school students find DUO extremely engaging, and I find it a powerful tool to introduce and review complicated sounds and spellings in English,” said teacher Mike Connors of Washington D.C.

Karen Taylor, co-founder of ELTS, says “We piloted the game with hand-picked school districts across the country, as well as at my children’s Montessori school. The teacher introduced it to her students, and the game took off like wildfire. She approached me a month later with tattered cards in her hand and said ‘look at this, this is how much they love this game’ and begged for a more durable deck.”

Taylor is a former Fulbright specialist with a focus on second-language pronunciation. She created the Color Vowel® Chart in 1999 to help international graduate students deliver their lectures comprehensibly. With co-author Shirley Thompson, the Chart was developed to replace phonetic symbols with colors. Early adoption by the U.S. Department of State propelled their work to international acclaim.

In 2014, ESL teacher Laura McIndoo designed a game around the Chart—Color Vowel® DUO. She piloted it with her own adult ESL students and was astounded by the response. Students insisted on buying their own sets to take home to their families.

With beta test results in hand and an overwhelming demand for the game, the Color Vowel® team knew they had created something unprecedented: a language game that bridges schools and home learning. Now, with the Kickstarter campaign, they aim to make DUO a household game while transforming the way English reading and pronunciation is taught in classrooms around the world.
