Handmade-Watercolor Illustrated Tarot Deck Made for Gamers and Tarot Readers Alike

Starting on March 12th, Roll the Dice: Fantasy RPG Tarot Deck debuted on Kickstarter. Featuring several eye catching illustrations of created cards with promise of many more, the deck has a very interesting start. This themed deck, while not uncommon in tarot, is geared towards the Fantasy gaming crowd. Each of the individual suits are associated with different races within the gaming world while still keeping traditional tarot themes. Pentacles has been changed to Hammers and is associated with Dwarves, Wands with Humans, Cups with Elves, and Swords with Orcs. For the Major Arcana the mythos is associated with a fictional world that is used for gaming but has no copyrighted material that would need permission to use.

The pledge levels are varied; there is an early bird deck level at $10 off the regular deck level, as well as several levels for original card art, and even levels for having an individual’s original character on a card that will be printed in the deck. These levels are greatly varied price-wise so that any budget can be accommodated from a $5 postcard to a $1,000 large sized commission along with the deck. There’s even a listed stretch goal if the original goal is met and exceeded.

As each card is created it will be posted with more information and a full sized image, each image will also be cross posted on the deviantart page of the creator so larger images can be seen there. To tempt new backers smaller sets are posted as the cards are created. So the Major Arcana are posted in sets of 3 and the Minor in sets of 4 as there are 4 suits so they will be completed evenly. Each card is drawn, inked, painted, scanned, and edited in Photoshop before being complete for the backers and for the ultimate goal of publishing. The colors and details all have meanings and contribute to the messages that the cards convey. Unsurprisingly the Major Arcana have deeper meanings as they tend to be more story or mythology based while the suits are more themed depending on what their general meaning suggests. For instance the Pentacle Suit (or Hammer suit for this deck) is material and money based for the entirety of the suit, so a lot of the cards deal with commerce, fortune, and employment.

While the Major Arcana tend to deal in destiny and life purpose more than the Minor Arcana does. This doesn’t mean that one is better than the other, they are just different and have individualized purposes.

The person creating these has obviously done significant research and is working hard to make a good deck that’s well thought out and creative. As well as being thoughtfully created, the creator is very open to comments and ideas from the backers. So if you enjoy projects with a creative idea, or cards, or tarot, or gaming, there’s something in this Kickstarter for you.
