Handmade in Cardiff using the very best of traditional British materials.
Launched on Kickstarter is the OAK BARK TANNED ENGLISH BRIDLE LEATHER BELT campaign, each belt is made to measure by hand using traditional leather made in Devon by J & FJ Bakers tannery and solid brass buckles from a midlands foundry.
The belts will be made in Cardiff by Stephen McKenna entirely by hand; Stephen does not use any machines, just traditional hand tools and traditional techniques.
The very best of British materials have been sought out by Stephen for this project, Oak bark leather is a traditional leather that takes well over a year to make, there has been a tannery on the same site in Devon since Roman times. The buckles are cast brass made by Abbey Foundry who hold the Royal Warrant for saddlery supplies.
Backers of the campaign have a choice of 3 leather colours, black, brown or tan and 3 buckle options, all hand stitched in Stephens Cardiff workshop where the only electricity used is for the lights and the radio.
Each strap will be cut by hand. The edges bevelled and dressed with a durable finish, each belt is then burnished by hand resulting in a rounded smooth edge for ease of use through trouser loops. The sand cast brass buckles are hand stitched in place with a super strong woven polyester thread. All belts are then waxed, buffed and conditioned to a unique finish. This beautiful leather will break in well and develop its own unique patina with use over time.
The ultimate traditional British made belt to last many years.
