Newly found indie gaming company in Canada looks to revitalize niche game genre by cross pollinating mechanics from popular genres.
Located in Mississaga, Ontario, Canada, the newly founded Imagiro studios aims to take niche games, which are generally forgotten after a period of hype, and revitalize it by combining popular mechanics from other genres. A small company with a big goal of producing close to “AAA” quality games with tight budgets just recently launched their Kickstarter campaign for their new project called MODUS, a turn-based, precision artillery shooter game for PC with real-time elements.
The game was inspired by Gunbound, a 2d flash-based PVP artillery shooter game by Nexon. The simple turn-based gameplay was easy to learn and immerse but takes incredible amount of skill and experience to master. However with every turn-based game, the players are forced to look at the screen having nothing to do while waiting for their turn. Imagiro Studios took this shortcoming of Gunbound and added real-time elements that grants players action and engagement even if its not the player’s turn. Summing it up? Keeping the player playing the game even though it is not their turn.
On top of the real-time element in a turn based game, MODUS integrated multi-platform stage designs. Contrary to blowing up the ground around the opponent in Gunbound, MODUS uses multi-platform stage design allowing players to seek out locations that provides tactical advantages, giving the player a sense of strategy and promotes planning.
A small company with a big goal. Imagiro Studios looks to produce game titles that brings back a wide genre of classic game mechanics by adding new features and mechanics to improve or change the gameplay and player experience, and MODUS is just the beginning step towards that goal.
