Marking the 3rd year anniversary of their first Kickstarter campaign, Kudo3D launched their second Kickstarter, the Bean 3D printer on May 31, 2017. Within less than 2 minutes, Kudo3D was able to reach their goal of $50,000 USD and reached $100,000 USD within 3 minutes.
The Bean 3D printer is a LCD SLA 3D printer with XY resolution of 50 microns and a Z layer thickness capable of 10 microns. Instead of using laser or DLP to generate patterns, the Bean has a high resolution 2K LCD panel coupled with a purple 405nm LED lamp to project slices of a 3D model onto the floor of resin container. The average power consumption of the Bean is only 50W which is one of the lowest. With a large build area, the Bean can print models to a maximum size of 4.7 x 2.7 x 5.9 in.
The Bean 3D printer also uses liquid resins to create the prints. This liquid resin solidifies once a light pattern is shined upon it.
The idea behind the Bean came shortly after Kudo3D’s first 3D printer, the Titan 1. Kudo3D’s founder, Dr. Tedd Syao, commented, “3D printing is considered one of the next disruptive new technologies. However, what good is a new technology if a large group of people do not have access to it? We, at Kudo3D, hope to be the answer to this problem. It has always been our mission statement, and we have always worked towards providing the best for our users. We strongly believe that with the new printer, there will be a great shift towards the advancement of the 3D printing industry.”
The Bean 3D printer is currently on Kickstarter. Though both the super early bird and early bird pricing are gone, the Bean is still available for $399 USD for those who want to get into resin 3D printing.
