New game (Battlebetes) that unites proven and innovative game mechanics with the core concepts of diabetes launches on Kickstarter.
Battlebetes was designed by experts in healthcare and board games, and was created first and foremost to provide a full, strategic tabletop game experience for board game enthusiasts. In addition, it illustrates diabetes mechanics in an engaging and enjoyable environment.
Battlebetes includes several custom components designed from scratch for production on 3D printers and features distinctive illustrations. The food tokens feature the simple but unique mechanic of being two sided and thrown like dice to generate your blood sugar score. The game launches fully designed, playtested and ready for production.
The Kickstarter campaign offers a standard version of the game for $25 and a premium edition for $50 (plus shipping). Backers not as interested in tabletop gaming have the option to purchase a copy to be reserved for use by diabetes support organizations for events such as educational classes or camps. By using 3D printing for key components, the game is able to be altered as needed for the specific education needs of various diabetes support organizations.
“Battlebetes and other games like it have the potential to make diabetes education more interactive and to stimulate conversations in non-traditional, more comfortable environments,” notes Jane L Lynch M.D., Professor of Pediatrics and Interim Chief of Endocrinology at UT Health San Antonio.
