Lincoln, UK – 3rd July 2013 –

What Goes Up is a feature film being made by GSProductions, a new media production company set up by University of Lincoln media and film students. We have already raised our preliminary funding of £3,300 through our indiegogo site, which is enough to make our film to a good standard. Being students we have to work on a tight budget and rely on crowdfunding sites such as indiegogo for our budget. However we are offering a range of great perks for anyone who donates.

There is still 22 days left to go on the indiegogo campaign, so the more we raise the better we can make the movie. Our aim is to prove that student film-makers can produce impressive work to a semi-professional level if given the budget to do so. And for that we need your help.

Synopsis
WHAT GOES UP… follows the story of Lee, a passionate (but struggling) coder and his best friend designer Ray as they pursue creating the greatest video game they can possibly imagine. Whilst doing this, Lee is also battling his nerve to talk to Sarah the girl of his dreams who works in the office below. But when the universe mysteriously gifts him a cube resembling a popular puzzle toy, Lee sees his fate change for the better. Lee soon becomes his own worst enemy as he has to choose between his own happiness and that of those around him.

In many ways, this is a morality tale. We wish to explore destiny and question if we’re in control of it. We wish to explore priorities in life with selfishness and selflessness in mind. And ultimately, as alluded to in the title, we wish to explore the theory that what goes up, must come down.

Budget
If we manage to raise our goal to just £3,500 we can afford to cover better expenses for the film including rental of locations and catering.

If we manage to raise our goal to £4,500 we can afford to shoot the movie on a Red One which has been used for films such as “The Social Network”, “The Book of Eli” and “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” to name a few. This would be HUGE for us and we’re incredibly excited that it might be possible. Imagine how great our film would look in full cinematic beauty on the big screen?

If we can get up and past £5,000 we can begin to afford to pay our actors for their efforts and crew for all their hard work, any extra money we can make above this will also be put into organising local screenings around the UK and helping distribute the film internationally after it’s finished.
Most of our budget (about 70%) will be spent on the art department, in particular the set. The money we raise will be spent on creating the world of these characters.

Some of the budget (about 20%) will be spent on equipment costs (camera, lighting, sound etc.) and distribution costs.

The rest of the budget (10%) will be spent on administration fees such as licensing, location expenses and production costs.

Schedule
We have just moved from development to pre-production on the film, having completed the script and secured locations and funding we are currently in the process of casting, gathering props and costumes and starting on the shooting script.

We’re looking to start shooting in July, and expecting to wrap on the film by mid-September. At this point it will enter post production which may take a few months as not only does the film have to be edited but the visual effects sequences will need to be composited after a rough cut of the film is made and we’ll also need time to work on the soundtrack for the film, so we’re expecting it to be finished by January 2014.

As soon as the film is finished, any of our investors that have purchased a perk £30 or higher will receive and exclusive digital copy of this film. We’re also going to be entering it into a multitude of festivals during the year at which we’re hoping to find success, after the initial festival circuit we will be officially releasing the film on DVD for sale on Amazon and other platforms.

  1. Pingback: Week #5 Roundup! | What Goes Up... Film Production Blog 10 Jun, 2013

[…] Last week was incredibly productive. We managed to secure some really wonderful deals with various people that are helping us out with the production including getting one of our main locations arranged which you can read about below. We’re also working on our locations for the rest of the film, which we’ll keep you updated on as and when we secure them officially. The production team have also been in talks with numerous people from the press which has really been helping us raise our awareness, we’ve seen a huge influx of supporters on both our Facebook and Twitter pages and we’re incredibly grateful and constantly surprised by truly how much support we’re getting from people. It’s really wonderful. Take a look at some of the articles here and here. […]
