Michael Amundsen is pleased to announce that he has started a campaign on Kickstarter to raise funds for an independent feature film titled CAT AND THE TROLLS. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/946967595/cat-and-the-trolls
Amundsen has been a filmmaker for over 30 years. He has edited 18 feature films, and directed 3 feature films as well as 25 narrative shorts and documentaries. And now he has an opportunity to make a film that he is passionate about and that speaks to themes that are very important to him.
CAT AND THE TROLLS is a suspenseful, sometimes grim, sometimes sweet but moving account of two children, Siri and Toad, left alone in a tarpaper shack on the Montana plains during a life–threatening blizzard in the winter of 1917. Their mother has died. Their father, gone to retrieve a neighbor’s wagon to carry the mother’s coffin into town, has yet to return. And Christmas is coming. While alone and in grave danger, the children confront two strangers who invade their home: a vengeful banker and a dying young cowboy. But on this Christmas Eve, they have a guardian angel.
CAT AND THE TROLLS addresses all of Amundsen’s favorite themes: forgiveness, faith, redemption, endurance against great adversity and love. It is set during the Homestead period of the early part of the twentieth century in southeastern Montana where he lived as a child. Plus it takes place during his favorite time of the year – Christmas. The title itself, CAT AND THE TROLLS, references an old Norwegian folk tale which illustrates the dangers of making false assumptions, which ties into the theme of the film.
Amundsen’s Norwegian immigrant grandparents homesteaded outside of Glendive, Montana in 1909. His Danish ancestors settled and farmed in central Utah. Each had a dream to establish a better life for themselves and their children. CAT AND THE TROLLS tells the story of two of these children struggling to survive in a harsh unforgiving landscape.
