UK based, independent fashion studio Cotton Love, launches debut men’s and womenswear collection via crowd funding platform Kickstarter.
A quiet introduction to the Cotton Love look and design ethos, the introductory Cotton Love collection launched on November 8th, via the crowd funding platform Kickstarter. The launch offering comprises of five womenswear and four menswear styles, designed and made in the UK.
The objective, to establish Cotton Love as a label, which offers functional, easy to wear clothing with a refinement of detailing, honesty of construction and distinguished identity.
The Cotton Love style is about clean lines, confident proportions and considered detailing. A sensibility inspired by 90s minimalism, eastern silhouettes and antique workwear.
The individual designs mirror the refinement of the overall aesthetic with the refinement of their construction and finishing. Experimenting and pushing pattern cutting, both external and internal details are limited.
The Cotton Love customer whether from Brooklyn, Berlin or London has a strong sense of individual style and the label fits as a staple foundation to their everyday wear.
Launching via Kickstarter on a pre-order basis, ensures as a small independent, the brand is able to fully realise it’s vision, manage production quantities and maintain manufacturing within the UK.
This transparent route enables immediate feedback from customers, gives power to the consumer, creates a community and reinforces the Cotton Love brand values of honesty. If the campaign is successful, 100% of the money pledged goes into the manufacturing of the garments by our (chosen) East-London based manufacturer.
A small start-up, Cotton Love is run by founder Nigel and creative director Ruth. The brand draws upon an amalgamation of their professional history working in editorial, retail, design and ecommerce, for international and niche middle-market fashion brands and publications, within London, Scandinavia and Europe.
First established in 2007 and expanded in 2011, Cotton Love began as an online vintage curation site, stocking a small selection of emerging accessory designers and grew a small but dedicated following. Last year the brand partook in conceptual ‘pop-up’ storedi ‘Nothing But Navy’ with OTHER/shop, Marwood, Sophie Hulme, Awai and Etudes among others. And is set to be involved in another venture this holiday period. The development of an introductory in-house label was the natural progression for the brand, driven by customer requests.
An open launch via Kickstarter tests the nerve of an independent, in a competitive industry going through unprecedented change but serves as starting point in the development of the Cotton Love brand in achieving it’s objective.¬¬
