Lorenz Hermsen is the designer of a collection of luscious silk scarves, and is launching a Kickstarter campaign to assist in their production. Starting with ten designs, with plans to introduce ten new ones each spring and fall, they will be digitally-printed on high-quality silk with hand-rolled hems.

About a year ago, he decided to investigate what it would take to have his designs printed digitally onto silk. As a graphic artist, he knows the software used for creative projects, but was unfamiliar with digital printing on fabric. After much research, he decided it was not only possible but advantageous to print digitally—minimum orders are relatively low, and an unlimited color range is possible. He searched globally, and found a printer using non-toxic inks that meet high European standards.

With graphic design as his background, the designs have a strong graphic quality; they glorify color, and with the creation of new colorways become entirely different. He has traveled extensively, and has often fallen in love with the handmade textiles being made in some countries. He has been importing handwoven silk scarves  from Southeast Asia and India for about eight years, which are sold through trunk and gallery shows. His years of selling these imported textiles directly have given him a strong sense of what women like and wear.

The fundraising drive on Kickstarter for The Lorenz Hermsen Collection is $4,500, the amount needed to get the first order printed. If the campaign is successful, for each $40 that is pledged, the contributor will be rewarded with a scarf of their choice.

If you are interested in supporting this designer’s latest endeavor, you have until the 18th of November.
