Cranston, RI — Classified missions, secret agents in peril, a field kit full of spy essentials; no, this is not the plotline of the newest James Bond film, but the experience included in a STEM Spy subscription box by MobileQuest.

When COVID-19 forced MobileQuest STEM Center to temporarily close its doors in March, the MobileQuest team started developing ways to deliver their creative STEM lessons and content to students at home. Take home STEM kits became a popular option that continued even when MobileQuest could reopen in June. While open during the summer, it became apparent that MobileQuest would have to shift from its typical hands-on approach to a new delivery system of engaging and entertaining STEM content. The team went to work on STEM Spy.

STEM Spy is a monthly subscription box geared towards children aged 6-11. Participants will receive a field kit containing 30 items that they will use to create, design, and solve classified missions. Working with a Rhode Island-based video production team, MobileQuest has made videos of secret agents in the field who need a junior agent’s assistance. They must use their field kit along with critical thinking and problem solving to create a solution. Each month participants will receive new supplies for their field kit along with a new classified mission.

STEM Spy will launch on Kickstarter on Small Business Saturday- November 28th, 2020. Early-bird discounts and Kickstarter exclusive items will be available to backers. Initial STEM Spy field kits will be in kids’ hands in February 2021.
